Usinsk is located in the northeast of the Komi Republic in the basin of the central Pechora river in 757 km from Syktyvkar, in 90 km from the Arctic Circle.

Today Usinsk is the center of oil-extracting industry of the Komi Republic. In the city there are many administrative, industrial enterprises of the oil-extracting industry.

Usinsk is the most modern Komi city. It is connected with other cities of the Komi Republic and the Russian Federation by railway and air traffic.
