Kortkeros region was formed in July, 1939. Today its territory occupies 19,7 thousand square meters and includes 18 rural municipalities. In the area there are 53 settlements where more than 19 thousand people of different nationalities live: Komis, Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Germans, Tatars.

Roads of the Kortkeros region are the best in Komi.

Kortkeros region is rich in forests and it occupies the first place in the number of especially protected natural territories ( 35 objects of republican value).
