Nowadays, the upper Vychegda and Perm regions are connected only by unpaved roads and "zimniks". But that section is part of the planned federal "Northern Highway", which will provide a much shorter route connecting the Urals with ports on le White Sea and the Baltic Sea.

When it is complete Ust-Kulom will have a chance to become a center on the main highway and trucking route of the Russian North, the district may be reached by bus from Syktyvkar and Kortkeros. There is no raillroad and local aviation is used only in emergency situations.

There is no regular us service between the Komi-Permyatsky Autonomous Region and Ust-Kulomsky district. Water transportation is used only for sending goods to distant villages during le navigation period.
