Ust-Kulom region is situated in the southeast of the Komi Republic in the basin of the Vychegda river.

Administrative center is the village of Ust-Kulom. It was formed on July 15, 1929.

At present there are about 100 large and medium-size forest enterprises .

In the villages there are a lot of architectural monuments of XIX-XX centuries: the Troitse-Stephano-Ulyanovsky monastery and some churches protected by the state.
